About IHO

Welcome to Notes from the Field!

With this blog, we hope to provide a glimpse into how field research is conducted, what life is like living and working at field sites, and why supporting field research is so important to IHO’s mission. There is nothing like that first-hand discovery of the clues to what makes us human! So, follow our scientists and students as they continue their exciting work!

The Institute of Human Origins (IHO) at Arizona State University conducts, interprets, and publicizes scientific research on the human career. IHO’s unique approach brings together scientists from diverse disciplines to develop integrated, biobehavioral investigations of human evolution. Through research, education, and the sponsorship of scholarly interaction, IHO advances scientific understanding of our origins and its contemporary relevance. Combining interdisciplinary expertise and targeted funding, IHO fosters the pursuit of integrated solutions to the most important questions regarding the course, cause, and timing of events in human evolution.
